The Chowkune village municipality of West Surkhet has published a textbook for class 3 in the local Magar language. The book written by Man Bahadur Baga, a resident of the same village municipality-1, has been published by the village municipality. Earlier, with the financial support of the village municipality, he has published a Hungarian language book for class one and two called ‘Kanung Dhutjul-Somra Katchhaya’. The author said that the book was written with the aim of making it easier for the new generation to speak and write the Magar language and to prevent the language from disappearing.
He says the book will make it easier to pass on its culture and traditional technology to the new generation. Chowkune village municipality is one of the most populated areas of the Magar community. Nirmala Ranamagar, vice-chairperson of the village municipality, said that an annual budget is allocated for the production of Magar language textbooks. “Magar language textbooks will make a significant contribution to the upliftment of local Magar speakers,” said Vice President Rana while releasing the book. Hit Prasad Poudel, chief administrative officer of the village municipality, hoped that the textbooks would help in imparting basic level education in the mother tongue and making the learning of second language students effective.
